Our foot bridge out front also needed a complete redesign, we took down the old ragged hand rails and are putting up some brand new painted ones, took some of the old decking off and replaced a few of the main supports… so by next week sometime we plan on finishing that project as well.

Albany Plantation would be perfect for your Vintage wedding. We offer surroundings and settings that you just can’t find at other wedding venues in the Hammond, La area. First thing we have to understand is that Vintage Weddings are themed around the decades between the 1920’s and the 1980’s. Don’t confuse vintage with Victorian which is the era between the 1837 and 1901. (Which our Wedding Venue would be perfect for too)

The vintage wedding themes are the 20’s, 30’s, 40’s, 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, and the 80’s. As you know, each one of these decades has its own distinct style of clothing, music and decor. The fantastic thing about these themes is seeing and experiencing the look and feel of decades past.

For some wedding themes, the location is the most important element. But with vintage weddings it is the clothes, hair and props that tell most of the story. The location can be very important as well if you choose one that tells a significant part of your story, but typically clothes, hair and props dominate the scene.

 Wedding Ideas

Once you decide on an era, begin to research the clothing styles. Look at old pictures. Do a search on the internet or watch movies that are set in that era. Take good notes so you don’t have to go back and do this again. Note the hair styles, clothing, make-up, and accessories. Even look at the modes of transportation like cars, bicycles, or carriages. Make a list of things you think were popular or things that your particular era was best remembered for. Some of these ideas may become great props down the line.

You don’t have to nail it, just make it yours! Do pay close attention to the wedding fashion though. If you do, everybody will get it and it will be fun and romantic. Use the clothes and the location to define the primary look and feel, then add the props to make the theme more accurate and fun.

It will really help you put your theme together if you combine it with one of several other themes including favorite color, favorite flower, garden wedding, or country wedding for example. This will refine your look and feel and give a more specific direction to go with the rest of your wedding choices.

Choose wedding flowers that fit your color scheme and the style of your theme. If you are crossing vintage weddings with one of the other themes, refer to that theme page for more flower and theme ideas.

The most popular flowers are Roses, Tulip, Calla Lilies, Lily of the Valley, Hydrangeas, Gerbera Daisies, Peonies, Ranunculus, Stephanotis, Sweet Pea, Gardenias, Casablanca Lilies, Orchids, Lilacs, and Viburnum.

 

Wedding Color Schemes

Colors will be a big part of your theme. As you know, fashions and colors change all the time, and different eras are known for specific color trends. Colors can define a time period and even a setting.  People expect to see certain colors in certain settings because we know historically that is how it was. Purple dresses in a red 50’s diner would only confuse everyone, on the other hand a pink Sandra Dee dress with pink flowers would be absolutely beautiful. So make sure you love your theme, and that the colors you love go with that theme because they will be in the dresses flowers and everything else.

Clothing, hair and props are the most important things to do well for this theme. Making sure the feel of the location is right can be very important as well. The more obvious you are about your theme the more real it will feel. If you do a good job on your research and choose a color scheme that works well with the theme, you will have the tools to be able to easily put together a fantastic vintage wedding.
